(stupid pics wont work)
Lol, this is either inspired, or disastrous, i suppose you could say that about plenty of stuff though. Apparently Simon Pegg is gonna play Scotty in that new Star Trek movie that JJ Abrahms is making!
RTE has the 411.
Eric Bana's gonna be the baddie.
There's a serious Star Trek buzz at the mo, i saw Episode 2 and 3 of new heroes last night, and there's George Takei, who was Sulu (i didn't have to look up his name...or the next one) and......Nichelle Nichols!

Cathy Davey
I lover her, and i was reading recently somewhere (it's possibly not true) that she doesn't really like her first album Something Ilk anymore :( i love it! My favourite is, and always has been Save Button. But she's got a new album coming out now, woo!
The Torture Garden interviewed her a while ago.
Jim was talking about her a while ago too.
Youtube hasn't caught up with new stuff yet, but

From that Torture Garden interview...
What does it sound like? Are you happy with it?
Well... to me it sounds like music I'd like to dance to. And not serious dancing. Just child-like, please don't catch me on camera kinda happy dancing. I wrote half of the album on drums instead of piano or guitar because I really wanted to make music that would keep me lifted through the whole proccess... The subject matter is quite sinister and at times macabre, so the music had to counter that if I was to enjoy it, and I wanted to let moments have their own full charge... Not be embarrassed by them. Big feelings in little packages.
How is the subject matter sinister?
I had a head full of skeletons and if I wrote songs for them they danced.
The Princess Bride
Well i got this weird email the other day abotu some kind of Princess Bride 20th Anniversary edition. It got me thinking about the Princess Bride, which is one of my favourite ever ever films. The book is absolutely deadly too!

Lol the whole film is just so funny imo
AND Peter Falk is in it!!!

Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work,
but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan,
my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Gilder
to frame for it. I'm swamped!
Inigo:
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my
father. Prepare to die.

The day i almost
Met Angela Lansbury, is also the day that i nearly choked laughing about Brian Kennedy, but that's an entirely different story.
So i've always been a fan of Murder, She Wrote and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. What's not like to like really. Murder, She Wrote and other programmes of that ilk are great. They are gentle, very funny and they aren't out to hurt anyone, take note: Jerry Springer and your cronies. Jerry Springer makes me think of road rage :X
Anywho, myself and a few friends had heard that Angela Lansbury was going to be visiting the Irish Film Institute. That was it, we had to go.
So Angela, we found out lives in West Cork, near Jeremy Irons pink castle apparently! And she delighted us in coming up for a special screening of the Blackwater Lightship and an interview to be aired on Rattlebag.
Anywho it was deadly, we ended up sitting in about the second row, it was very exciting! The film was pretty good, actually i saw it recently which i think is what reminded me about this.
Anyway, the film was shown, and was very enjoyable, but to be fair everyone was waiting for Angela to arrive!
She came out wearing a lovely silk blouse, beige trouser combo thing. She's very well spoken, and she came across really well. She was able to talk in a lovely charming way abotu all teh theatre and film she's done, and the amazing actors she's worked with,
and then the questions started.
But first let me share something i found on youtube
Angela, a far cry from Jessica Flethcer.
So anyway the questions, there were real genuine questions, about actors she's worked with, highlights of her career, for me it's sweeney todd.
So there was a nice gentle question and answer session, did you know Angela
but what was really special was the die hard fans, read geeks in the front row. Now i know i sound like a gig for even thinking about writing about this. But they were serious SERIOUS geeks! they were like oh in minute 24 of that episode what were you thinking, and one was like, "oh we never knew each other before today, we met through Angelalansbury.net". They had come from Germany, and England. But i suppose each to their own.
So after the chat, everyone got up to do a little meet and greet, and we were three people away, i'm not messing three people away, and the pr person whisked her off! :( didn;t totally break my respect for her, but there's definately a dent there. So close and yet so far.
The there was teh group who came with Murder, She Wrote board game. One girl had saved it since she was a child, possibly in teh hope that she would one day meet Angela. She also got fobbed off, as the rush of the super breed of geeks, was too much for us lesser geeks.
Anyway, check her out. She's done a lot.
I think this is probably one of my longest and most incoherent posts.

STOP PRESS!!!
Those lads from Blur had lunch together.
Alex, Damon, Dave and Graham met for an enjoyable lunch on Monday.

Barefoot living
We are a group of people who love going barefoot pretty much everywhere, all the time (not just around the house or at the beach), as a lifestyle choice, including out and about on streets, stores, in the country, and hiking.
Ever take off your shoes and walk barefoot through the grass, on the beach, etc? We bet you have. Why did you do it? Because it feels good! We've just extended that to everyday life. Know what? It feels even better!
i'm joining the Ireland faction. I know it's more difficult in winter.
Barefoot Living
I have to say
The interweb has been awash with mysterious goings on, and oh what's theis about-ness.
I thought what a pile of pretentious crap, oh what are Arcade Fire upto? But it's pretty cool. And still pretentious obviously. Still dunno what it's all about, need lunchtime to examine it. Think it might be nothing.
Weird.

And also...hhmmm
Actually i think it sounds great.
MSNBC talks about the Cat in question.
Dear Children, here you will find a biography that is different to others because it is told by a cat and it is not every day a cat can consider the Holy Father his friend and sit down to write his life story,” the Pope’s personal secretary, Monsignor Georg Ganswein, says in the foreword.

So yesterday
I got home from work, pottering around the house, the usual craic, and I popped out to get my clothes out of the drier. Our drier is housed in a little shed out the back yard, our drier and washing machine are buddying up there together.
So i went outside, flicked on the light, thank God i was wearing shoes. Our drier has a glass door, and i whipped it open and was about to put my hand in to pull the clothes out when, i noticed something INSIDE the machine, it was on the filter. I picked it up and was thinking, what's this? and for a split second i thought it was someone playing a trick on me.
It was a dead mouse. I nearly lost my life, i slammed the door and ran inside, and then washed my hands about 15 times. This incident has not helped my early stages of OCD.
I've never been so freaked out in my life, and then i started to think about how the mouse had obviously been cooked in there with my clothes, i had to sit in the sitting room with my legs off the floor, and was like how can i stop thinking of this. So i put on Dara O'Briain which worked. For about ten minutes.
I'm not normally that squemish animal wise, but this was different, a mouse was cooked with my clothes. :(
Then my flatmate L came home, and she was worse than i was. Even though she grew up around small rodenty creatures. Her bro had a fine collection of hamsters/shrews/guinea pigs etc. So we went out, and she started screaming, and then i started practically hypervenilating. She started saying how she thought maybe it was a baby rat, and then sent me over the edge.
The moral of the story seems to be i am a wuss. A complete wuss. I wish i had taken a picture of him, but i probably wouldn't be able to use my phone again, at any rate, i'm throwing away all the clothes from the drier, because even washing them again will not help me wear them again.
We eventually got rid of little rodent with the dustban, by chucking back to teh circle of life in teh back lane.
after i went to bed, i started looking through my laundry basket thing, very carefully, to investigate any further little creatures.
I once woke up with a spider on my face, that was ok. A mouse cooked in the drier, is not.
I think i need to move out.

I want this
I heard good Tom Dunne playing some tunes off this yday. No Diggity covered by the Klaxons is especially good. He also played some superfantastic Modest Mouse tunes.
Anywho, as part of BBC Radio 1 celebrations, they are releasing (or possibly released already)a cd, of current artists doing covers from each year that Radio 1 has been going.
The Times are on the story here. I do like covers, and the ones i've heard are great, although i'm sure some are gonna be pants (Ray Of Light - Natasha Bedingfield).
It's got:
Flowers In The Rain - Kaiser Chiefs
Love Is The Drug - Kylie Minogue
You Sexy Thing - Stereophonics (lol)
Teenage Kicks - Raconteurs
i'm looking forward to this.
Things I've learned this week
1. The Graduate and The Odd Couple are two of the greatest films ever.
2. New Heroes is not as good as old Heroes.
3. Jim Carroll rocks: Malajube, Professor Longhair and Cathy Davey woo!
4. The Ballinasloe Horse Fair offers some very interesting sites, sounds and smells.
5. Bruce Springstein's new album is deadly.
6. People are really messed up.
7. New Cat Face mega lol.
8. There's a new girl moving into my house next week. I haven't met her yet, and won't meet her til after she moves in. :?
9. I have that blog log thing, and i've turned off the tracker thing, and i have no idea how to fix it.
10. The Irish Times website has the weirdest games section ever. Love the Crossword though.
11. Pretty much everyone i know is leaving the country to go travelling, and find themselves. I kinda wanna go.
12. In honour of + ageing, this couple celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary.

I'm megintrigued
That's a cross between mega and intrigued. :? anyway i know i'm way behind with this but:
I saw I Am Sam a few years ago, and all the songs are Beatles covers, so it's a similar thing i suppose, Here's Rufus doing Across the Universe. The film is great by the way!
And here's one with odd German subtitles, and some fine footage.

Courtesy of the Ticket, (I'm obsessed!) Belinda McKeon has enlightened me to Young@Heart. This is brilliant! Read the full article here.

This is impressive
And also a fairly substantial waste of time.
My nephew loves Calvin and Hobbes, so i suggested we write a letter to the guy who drew them Bill Waterson, only to find that since old Bill finished drawing them, he has become a recluse, and won't receieve any letters whatsoever from fans. How do i tell this to an 8 year old??

Sorry if the pic doesn't come out stupendously...

I read this
article about Welsh music, and welsh language music, and i thought it was really good. It's from Owen Adams music blog at the Guardian.
Welsh music's fine, ta
Come with me on a trip to mysterious land of valleys and words with no vowels. You'll find a healthier music scene than England's.
Anyway it got me thinking about Irish music/bands etc, how cool would it be to hear some bands/artists/whatever singing as gaeilge. Maybe this has already happened, and i have heard tell of that Irish version of Bell X1s Flame, or Bladhm, i was trying to get my hands on it, but alas couldn't locate it.
Anyway, yeah maybe i am totally behind the times, but with all teh Welsh, and obviously other language albums out there, i know i know, i just thought that would be interesting.
Atonement #2
Ok, so i haven't yet atoned poor froggy's death, which i still feel rotten about, poor froggy, and i keep seeing other frogs all over teh place, in pictures, in my dreams, talk of frog spawn everywhere, so i'm going to have to go to the zoo, and steal a frog, or something, and give it a good home, which incidentally would probably be the zoo :/
Anyway Atonement #2 is in relation to the film, i saw it. It's stunning. I had read the book a few months ago, in fact it passed around everyone in my house, and we all loved it, (yes we are all girls), but it really is a great film. I love the camera work, and the little flicks and angles are great. I suppose you'd call that cinematography!?
The score as well was brilliant. I have a love of soundtracks/scoring and this is a really special one. i love the way they incorporate the sound of the typewriter, in a really effective way.
the acting was great too, i thought Keira Knightley was excellent (sickened i am,) and not her usual annoying self, i know everyone says that, but so what? James McEvoy, and Saoirse Ronan were really good too, and as far as adaptations of books go, this was great! so that's it, probably the bittiest and non-nonsensical review of a movie ever.
I also like the princess bride, and as i said, the Golden Compass, whoop!
oh Lord of the Rings too, Also here, Mark Brown talks about the top 50 book adaptations.
In other news i was just thinking the other day, of the sound of laughter, and how it craics people up. I remember hearing a recording of a guy chuckling, when i was on the bus one cold, wintry night last...winter. And it cracked me up, that's it really, jut that laughing is infectious,
so i was laughing at this,
skip to 42 seconds in or so.

It's coming to that time of year
the witching hour, and stuff, so i found this site called extremepumpkins. It's pretty cool, i wanna make a pyro pumpkin this year!
Woah
Via Deputy Dog, you really need a head for heights for this one. It's the world's tallest narrowboat crossing. Pretty impressive really.
Radiohead
are total gits.
Ok that's a bit harsh, but this latest "Radiohead hieroglyphs", like seriously eff off, in a big way. This is just like all those JJ Abrams stunts and The Joker in Batman. I'm not down with this. The Guardian is on the case here. No i'm sorry but just no.

Cool stuff
I cannot wait for this film, The Golden Compass, i just finished re-reading it, finished The Subtle Knife last night, and am off to buy The Amber Spyglass today at lunchtime, oh yay!
Also am really looking forward to Stardust too.
