Everyone's missing, it's really freaking me out.

I read this

article about Welsh music, and welsh language music, and i thought it was really good. It's from Owen Adams music blog at the Guardian.

Anyway it got me thinking about Irish music/bands etc, how cool would it be to hear some bands/artists/whatever singing as gaeilge. Maybe this has already happened, and i have heard tell of that Irish version of Bell X1s Flame, or Bladhm, i was trying to get my hands on it, but alas couldn't locate it.

Anyway, yeah maybe i am totally behind the times, but with all teh Welsh, and obviously other language albums out there, i know i know, i just thought that would be interesting.

Atonement #2

Ok, so i haven't yet atoned poor froggy's death, which i still feel rotten about, poor froggy, and i keep seeing other frogs all over teh place, in pictures, in my dreams, talk of frog spawn everywhere, so i'm going to have to go to the zoo, and steal a frog, or something, and give it a good home, which incidentally would probably be the zoo :/

Anyway Atonement #2 is in relation to the film, i saw it. It's stunning. I had read the book a few months ago, in fact it passed around everyone in my house, and we all loved it, (yes we are all girls), but it really is a great film. I love the camera work, and the little flicks and angles are great. I suppose you'd call that cinematography!?

The score as well was brilliant. I have a love of soundtracks/scoring and this is a really special one. i love the way they incorporate the sound of the typewriter, in a really effective way.

the acting was great too, i thought Keira Knightley was excellent (sickened i am,) and not her usual annoying self, i know everyone says that, but so what? James McEvoy, and Saoirse Ronan were really good too, and as far as adaptations of books go, this was great! so that's it, probably the bittiest and non-nonsensical review of a movie ever.

I also like the princess bride, and as i said, the Golden Compass, whoop!
oh Lord of the Rings too, Also here, Mark Brown talks about the top 50 book adaptations.

In other news i was just thinking the other day, of the sound of laughter, and how it craics people up. I remember hearing a recording of a guy chuckling, when i was on the bus one cold, wintry night last...winter. And it cracked me up, that's it really, jut that laughing is infectious,

so i was laughing at this,

This book is so funny, I read it an age ago, in fact i think i might break it out again soon, i just have to get over my problem of losing books after i've read them. Anyway, I've just discovered Dave of Are You Dave Gorman fame has a blog! Woohoo, here he talks about Kinder eggs - Egg Wars and "woman urged to be political" stuff.


Oh yeah, the book is about a sort of drunken bet, that Dave makes with his friend, to find loads of people called Dave Gorman.

He's kind of friendly (i think) with Danny Wallace who started a cult. Sort of. He also wrote a very funny book about it called Join me.

Atonement

No not the film, i was driving home from a meeting last night, at all hours, in the buckets of rain....and i ran over a frog. I feel really awful about it, i was on the phone (handsfree) to my mam and i started shouting, and she was all like what's wrong!?

The poor little chap just appeared, and there was no room/safety for me to veer around it, and i feel terrible. And then i started thinking about being psychic, and this being some kind of weird prediction for tomorrow. But i obviously swiflty dismissed that idea.

Anyway, i feel really bad, poor Froggy, RIP.

I want to atone, but I'm not sure what's the best way. I'm serious about this by the way.

Space stuff is making Peruvians sick

Heard this mad report a few days ago, about strange smells from a crater where a meteorite landed in Peru. The smells are apparently making people sick.

It happened when apparently a fireball in the sky landed near this place called Carancas, and of course people want to go have a look, I would. it's just got a bit of an x-files buzz off it, and this kind of think always freaks me out.

Nestor Quispe, the mayor of the municipality, said;

"Lots of people from the town of Carancas have fallen ill. They have headaches, eye problems, irritated skin, nausea and vomiting," he said.

The incident took place on Saturday night, when people near Carancas in the remote Puno region, some 1,300km (800 miles) south of the Peruvian capital, Lima, reported seeing a fireball in the sky coming towards them.

The object then hit the ground, leaving a 30m (98ft) wide and 6m (20ft) deep crater.

The crater spewed what officials described as fetid, noxious gases.

How feckin weird is this!?!?!

I've Got Soul...

I do like the sound of this new film that they are talking about making about the man himself. Anywho i was yakking about it before. And now tehy have Cillian Murphy on board...woo and hoo!

Cillian Murphy will join Al Pacino in "Dali & I: The Surreal Story," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Andrew Niccol is directing off his own script. David O. Sacks, Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman will produce. The project is based on Stan Lauryssens' autobiographical book "Dali and I."

The film is set in the 1960s to the 1980s and follows the time in Dali's life where his great works as an artist were behind him and he became more flamboyant. The story is centered around his mentor-protege relationship with Lauryssens (Murphy), an art dealer.

Shooting will take place in 2008 in Spain and New York.

Electric Proms

Maybe some day i'll get to go to the Electric Proms, I had been dying to go last year, but living in another country can be a slight hinderence, even if it is really just over the road. Last years shows had TGTB&TQ, James Brown, The Godfather of Soul, and (bizarrely & kind of) John Lennon in their listings.

Anywho, there's lots of great stuff on this year, including Ray Davies doing some Kinks Tunes, The Beatles: Help!, and the Flaming Lips:UFOs at the Zoo.

What also looks really good, and is giving me a weird sense of Deja Vu is Sigur Ros: Heima . Sigur Ros went home and played a load of shows in Iceland unannounced. I frickin love Sigur Ros.

The best music festival of 2007? Don’t take our word for it. On The Record blog readers were asked to give us their verdict on the Electric Picnic and here’s their take on it.

Many agreed with Ian who cited a certain indie superstar jam as a highlight. “Now I love some Final Fantasy, I’m a bit iffy on Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and quite dismissive of Architecture In Helsinki.

“But what happens when you add all three together? You get a 40 minute improvised jam session in the Body and Soul on Sunday night which had to be a million times better than Primal Scream were on the main stage”.

Others, like Murphisto, found highs everywhere they looked. “Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid were unbelievable. Checking out the rave in Fossets Circus on Sunday night was a surreal buzz. Also The Dukesbox (a three piece band squashed in a caravan playing whatever you keyed in, from Beefheart to Motorhead to Mousse T), Jamie Lidell rocking the Bodytonic tent and Yoda’s VJ set.”

Cait mentioned “Chk Chk Chk, the entire cinema tent dancing to Footloose, the almost-rave on Sunday in Body and Soul, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and the daily Ticket!”

Chk Chk Chk were also a hit with Portixol as was Final Fantasy (“the Arcade Fire in your pocket”), Ratatat (“buckets of hair plus Mogwai plus Godspeed) and Spilly Walker (“David Kitt and mini David Kitt roll out Ibiza anthems”).

After enduring tuneless versions of David Bowie’s hits in the red campsite on Friday night, Matt Vinyl’s weekend got better with Electrelane, Ratatat, Rilo Kiley, Sonic Youth, Fujiya and Miyagi and Skream.

“I rounded off the weekend in Body and Soul getting down to Stevie G who managed to play just about every song released since about 1957 in his set and the crowd were loving it.”

Fujiya and Miyagi were also a wow for Liam Asciinoid (as were “Erasure, LCD Soundsystem, dancing with inflatable butterfly girls and Le Bien in Body and Soul”) and Naomi (“their jumpy beats and impeccable timing in Foggy Notions on Sunday night blew me away”), while Sarah was won over by “Oppenheimer, Super Extra Bonus Party, Jarvis Cocker, Lisa Hannigan and The Dhol Foundation.

“There was so much really good stuff going on”, Sarah said. “Next year ahoy”.

I rushed down to find him standing there waiting to see the action unfold. Another time, fire engines came roaring through our village to put out a haystack ablaze in a field. The whole place could've gone up. Only later did I find out Sebastian had started it.

It's Electric Picnic related but not what you think. I drove down to Stradbally around 6 or whatever on the friday. I ahd to work, so that was grand, i knew i'd be sitting in traffic anyway for half the day. And besides had the kind folks on 2fm keeping me company, with hot chip and the manics.

Anyway the point of the rant: there were people drinking, from cans, as they were driving. I actually was so shocked. There was a big transit of something ahead of me, and the driver got out, went aournd the back hopped in, and came out with half a beer. I know it was stop and start, and bumper to bumper, but seriously wtf!? Are people stupid!?!?

With all the feckin coverage and everything, ggrrrrrr, so dangerous, one drink does damage.

Ok rant over. it's just so feckin ridiculous.

YOUNG drivers leaving the Electric Picnic festival after drinking the previous night were breathalysed by gardai - at their own request.

Motorists approached gardai and asked them if they could be breath-tested before getting behind the wheel, it was revealed yesterday.

Those who tested positive walked away and drank water for several hours before returning and asking gardai to carry out another breath test.

According to many reports, Pavarotti has died. I can't beleive it really, i got very emotional when i heard Nessun Dorma this morn. He was 71, and had battled cancer for about the past year. He was a very special talent, his voice was spectacular.

RIP.

Scupture in Context

Sculpture in Context is launching tonight. It's an exhibition that goes on ever year in the Botanic Gardens, and features some really really good sculptors. There are no preview pics available unfortunately, but I can tell you there will be some gorgeous ceramic Russian Dolls, and some flower guns which i've heard tell about.

Anywho it's on until October 19, and the Botanic Gardens are nice for a visit anyway. Celebrate the Indian Summer (Autumn).
