Did you know?

That one newborn baby = 120 human eyeballs?
And that one male polar bear = 4.95 Tom Cruises

It's on the internet so it must be true
.

Cloverfield

Ok, first things first, Do not go see this on an empty stomach. Went to see Cloverfield last night anywho, it's JJ Abrams deally, he of Lost, Alias and now Star Trek (*hyperventilates*) fame!

Ricko was doing the intro, sounds like i'm trying to start rapping, and a fine job he did of it too. I also saw some people i haven't seen in aaaggeessss, but i'm not going to start talking about that right now. My friends Mags and Blinky also came. Blinky is leaving the country on Tuesday for nine months, a suspicous amount of time if you ask me. Anywho i'm going to miss her. She shouldn't go.

Me and Mags are going to drown are sorrows in table quiz drunk-ness next Tuesday after she goes. (i'm still trying to convince her not to go, and that hiding in a house in finglas, and researching trips abroad is a bad idea.)

*Cries a tear*

Anyway i'll post about that again later... BACK TO THE FILM (Batman).

It was on in the UGC, on Parnell street, and it even included a teaser trailer for the new Star Trek (under construction.) I hadn't seen any of the other trailers, so i was very excited about this, it looks flippinmaddeadly!

NOTE: i'm not in for spoilers so this is safe for anyone who's going to see it.

The film is brilliant. It's really, really very good. There were many moments of hiding behind faces, and yelps and squeezing hands cos of scaredy-ness.

It starts out at a party, and it's all filmed in shaky handheld camera stylee. I wasn't sure if i was going to be able to stick it out. The handheld camera-ness gets very ...weird after a while. But just as you think you can't really cope with the shaky-ness it all kicks off. And you can't go anywhere.

It's a very clever film masking as something a bit dumbed down IMO. the actors, all unknowns (to me anyway) are really good, and the effects and everything are excellent. I think it all hinges on the shaky-ness, you feel like you are really in there or something.

I came out with the feeling of JJ Abrams crawling into my brain and beating me up from the inside out. I was also very dizzy what with the motion sickness-ness and the like. I had to go have dinner after, to settle my stomach... it was like i was a kid again, and was feeling carsick :/

Ok this has become a very rambling post, and i don't think i'm that good a movie reviewer, because i always miss the point!

I was being fancy last night

I was at a launch thing. It was for the Dublin International Film Festival. This was the fanciest thing I've ever been to! There was plenty of free Jameson (naturally) floating about, and i obviously launched into it with gusto. I love that word gusto, i definitely will use that again.

Met some lovely people, and some incredibly glamorous ones too, as are the people i've mentioned below... :)

Met the lovely Una, (she really does rock you know!) who i realised i've been stalking in an unhealthy way, and knew a weird amount about her life, have fun in Trinidad!

I also met the delightful Sinead, who writes aboutmusical rooms, you should check this out if you haven't already it's excellent.
Rickedy was also there, resting his back!

I also met the delightful Tanya, who i'm hoping will pop in for tea some time soon!
I also met a former Rose of Tralee (swoon), who's name i hope i spell correctly here: Aoibhinn who totally invited me to a party, and now that i've written it in cyberspace, there's a record forever so i can't be uninvited! muahh ha ha ha!

All in all mucho fun, i'm so on for fun things like this again!

Oh and Rick and UnaRocks both wrote about this much better than me. Flogging + dead horse springs to mind. :/

Going to Cloverfield tonight, woop!

I love this picture!

The mutant ninja carrot from outer space

Ba ha ha ha!!!]

From Innocent, i love their drinks, and the fun. They also have a very warped pic of a double banana, freaked me out. too weird for me.

I'm in with the far superior blogs of Una, Rick, The Chancer, Why, That's Delightful, Present Tense, and Daddy or Chips among others!

very strange, but very cool, big smiles, and thanks :)

This bird, it makes me smile, so i hope it has the same affect for anyone else who sees it!

A tribute

To great movie scores.

I really want to see this

It's because i'm a big child.

Penelope

There are some

Cool new films on the way this year. Very Cool ones. And the Times has a list of some of them, about 50 in fact. I like the look of Be Kind Rewind, Synechdoche, The new Star Trek, (yes i know i'm a geek), Indiana Jones, (check out the latest vanity fair), How to Lose Friends And Alienate People, and very much especially Burn After Reading, new Coen Brothers, top secret, Brad Pitt/George Clooney stuff!

*hyperventilates slightly*.

Check out the rest of the list.

I'm delighted

That the State exists. Because I would not remember enough baout this gig on my own. Shame on me. Note to self: don't go to gigs at one in the morning!

Plus they have lovely pictures :)

Coool!!

A cool new magazine is about to spread it's ehhh inked wings... very odd analogy there. In fact it possibly isn't an analogy! Anywho check it out here. It's called State and it's gonna be good. Website is already miles ahead impressing me.

Anyone got any covers ideas? I frickin love covers.

You know when you have private jokes, or scene relavent jokes, and you try to explain them to someone else, and they don't get it? That's it, it's just so weird, i think hats are funny, anyone with me?

Am very excited by the Science Gallery.

Some Stop Motion.

Here are some pictures. I've seen this before, but it's a collection of pictures that show entire family's food for one week. I always liked these pictures.

Hhmmm, very... telling i guess is the phrase?!

Everything sounds like Coldplay, it's from a long while back!

TwoTitsandavote

I know i'm vaguely behind with this, but it's well worth a look, write a letter (remember that?), sign the petition, they'll even do a postcard for you!

The delightful Sabrina Dent is doing good work. Two Tits and A Vote, should be visited by everyone.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our first campaign: Better Access to Breast Health Care. With diagnostic services in hospitals being suspended and discussions of four month waiting lists for breast ultrasounds in the Oireachtas, it’s time to let our politicians know that we, as women voters, demand better access to breast health care, now.

Seriously well impressed. Good on you lady.

This is the sexy one!

Well the internet version. Here and Here.

Hope these links work. :/

The...

Strange Faces of Johnny Depp.

Julian Opie

Raptureponies HEARTS this guy. I was out wandering up O'Connell street and saw some of these bad boys. I used to love the bunnies too, but these are something else, I especially like the super sexy one outside the Hugh Lane, and especially night vision mode.

This one looks like it's walking on a car... :)

This is a bit too away...

Big up to Sarah for filling me in a while back, Love his site too.

Wednesday's Writings

I was at Dan Le Sac last week, and have some supremely dodgy photos, so here we go:

It was good as far as i can remember, but i thought it was on at ridiculous o'clock, they didn't get on stage til 1 am, which meant that everyone was absolutely wasted, including myself! I do think they were good, but can't really be sure.

Still that night was mucho fun, big gang, The Bernard Shaw, many drinks, some hilarious statements, Flat Stanley, anyone ever heard of him?? came out to visit some local celebs... :P ahh good times.

Ok so

Proof that Google is God.

PROOF #3
Google answers prayers. One can pray to Google by doing a search for whatever question or problem is plaguing them. As an example, you can quickly find information on alternative cancer treatments, ways to improve your health, new and innovative medical discoveries and generally anything that resembles a typical prayer. Ask Google and She will show you the way, but showing you is all She can do, for you must help yourself from that point on.

PROOF #5
Google is infinite. The Internet can theoretically grow forever, and Google will forever index its infinite growth

This is awful warped

Sensory Deprivatino that is. Really Freaks me out. More here.

Brian Keenan is all too familiar with some of what they are experiencing. He spent four years as a hostage in Lebanon. "I reckon I was in the dark about seven or eight months. I can't be sure; it's very hard to tell the time.

"The nothingness, that was extremely hard. Because the question in your head is how am I going to get through the next 10 minutes? Or months later, how am I going to get through the next day? Is there enough left in my head?"

"I remember one occasion waking up and having to squeeze my face and my chest and thinking to myself 'Am I still alive?'"

People are actually volunteering for this, and it's all gonna be filmed for BBC Horizon. It just scares the crap outta me.

My New Favourite Band

Vampire Weekend, although i'm often wrong about these things. They are from New York don't ya know?

Plus the video is fecking deadly!!!!
A-Punk

Mansard Roof

Diablo Cody

wrote Juno, my new favourite film of all time ever. Apparently she used to be a stripper... if the book she wrote about her life while stripping is as good as the movie, then she's laughing. And i will be too.

Candy Girl: A year in the life of an unlikely stripper.

More Election Stuff

So old man John McCain took the South Carolina vote. Could it have been helped by his daughter Meghan who is blogging about being on the campaign trail with her dad, and even has pictures, one caption with "Keeping it real with the Chief of Staff, Rick Davis."

Musings and pop culture on the political trail
. She has plenty of talk of cute shoes, and great photographers and stuff. It's an interesting way of getting the kids involved IMO.

Meghan McCain graduated in May from Columbia University with a major in Art History. She was born and raised in Phoenix. Her previous job experiences include working at "Saturday Night Live" and "Newsweek". She is a Scorpio.

More on the Blogette (!!!).

Stuff of the Week

Stuff from this week.
I was at the Irish Premiere of Sweeney Todd. Which was a lot of fun. It's a great movie, and well worth a look IMO. You can also freak out everyone you know by sending cards and not signing them from the website. Stalkers for the win!

This site has funny pictures of money folded in a way that the people on it look like they are wearing funny hats...

The Album Archive is doing The Bends this week. Ding Ding Ding.

Facebook has some very interesting new, ehhh.... racially aware i guess, Superpoking capabilities.

I'm going to check out these lads tonight. I saw them at Electric Picnic, and they knocked my socks off. I have high hopes.

Going drinking in the Bernard Shaw first so anyone coming and interested pop along, and maybe start shouting raptureponies...that would be fun.

This site has some 'mazing statue picturinos!

I love Covers and so does Jim Carroll, this automatically makes me cool right? Anywho, you wanna contribute your two cents to the Covers debate, check out Jim's Blog and some excellent stuff in the Ticket.

Only here...

From the Times, a school in Arklow was built around some telephone poles...sure why not!

I'm going to

See this later. Very exciting.

Saw Juno the other day

It might be the best film of this century. I'm not saying that lightly. The Film is excellent.

Rick has more about it
, cause i'm writing about the soundtrack. The soundtrack is possibly the most perfect soundtrack ever, and i really like soundtracks.

This soundtrack is frickin awesome though. It's introduced me to Kimya Dawson, who's great, and re-introduced me to some songs i'd totally forgotten. It's on my top five from now on.

Michael Cera and Ellen Page sing too :):)

Unfortunately it was too late by the time i realised i should put the songs in the order they are in the film.
:/

Sorry about the plentifulness of the videos that are completely dodgy.

Edit: oh yeah, more here and here.

Go see this movie!

Are you

with Hillers, or Barack (how much do i love that homepage!?!?!), or Romney, or in Chuck's camp?

I'm guessing most people will have already made up their minds, but if not: fun quiz.

In other news: Chuck's having a BBQ as he calls it for Mick Huckabee.

Edit: Oh and check it out. Hillers is a comedienne.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and welcome aboard the maiden flight of Hill Force One," she joked.

The plane that carries the president is called Air Force One

Tom Cruise

is bananas

"we are the authorities on the mind."

"We can bring peace and unite cultures...ahhh"

He's talking to the leaders, who want help.

"Now is the time", he threatens,

watch out lads.

Roll Up, Roll Up

The Blog Awards are swiftly approaching. So get Votin'. There are squillions of blogs around, and i think they are mighty. Also, this post is blatantly stolen from Le Catch. So Word, dude!

Edit Special Heads Up for the piccy blog, and a SECOND IN ONE POST mention for my lovely friend Catch. I do love the moody picture.

Oh and the lovely Sarah, the groupies, and the music men and women.

This is very clever

Oh No They Didn't.

In my opinion anywho, it's sort of album covers recreated!

Etta James

I've been listening to a lot of Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie that sort of thing lately...and i came across a few videos on my travels. I wanna hear more of this kind of stuff, so anyone got any suggestions please let me know.

Stop the Wedding...(Inspired by L) It's not really a video...but the song is just so great!

I'd rather go blind (with Dr John)

Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode

Which makes me think of Back to the Future...

Hmmmm thread has drifted...What's feckin new? I'm off to a poker game.

Do do do do...

I've nearly got the dance perfected...

NEARLY

It's Kate Bush... of course

I'm not sure what the deally is with the old videos, they are all obviously cogged from Youtube.

Wuthering Heights

And again

Running up that Hill

Babooshka

In other news they are having a car boot sale at the Bernard Shaw. This excites me greatly.

I've a car... *thinks again*

Ever wanted to run a life?

Well now you can! The delightful Becs is allowing the blogosphere to rule her life. Cue maniacal laugh and Monty Burns images in my head. She's not gonna do any life/body/mind damaging stuff though...be realistic lads!

Sample stuff she's thinking along the lines of:

- What I should eat for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

- Gigs to go to and music to listen to. (Within reason, gigs will have to be kinda cheap)

- Films to see.

- Places to visit in Dublin.

- Book/s, articles, etc. to read.

- What I should wear. I will provide options. You will decide between them.

- More decisions that crop up during the week.

I'm very much looking forward to the clothes options one... i wonder can i make her get a crazy haircut...?

I can't really tell you how excited i am at this prospect!

Very Weird

You know the way, there's all those clocks, like when you will die yadda yadda....

there's a virgin population clock.

How odd.

I'm not too sure about the accuracy of this clock though, they spell virgins, vigins in part of the site.

still...

The Pope Song

Via Rick.

Rhyming Pope with Hope.

Genius.

Is this the cutest

Video in the history of time?
Feck i can't link it in the youtubey way...
but check it out.

Ok so

I heart quizes, well i Heart lots of things...but this is not the post to go into them. This is about quizes.

As usual the Times has me buckled under its intellectual weight with their movie quiz...it's so difficult. well not all of it, but a lot...

questions include
What did the O in Roger O Thornhill stand for?

See...fiendish...
There are more in the Ticket. I also heart the Ticket.

So in my look at quiz i was on the BBC and they have a quiz all about etiquette. The first question is for the coffee drinkers. I frickin love quizes.

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Lol

I frickin love this song

Big up to Rick, 'cos he reminded me how super this song is!

Feist - Inside and Out

They are taking the piss...

No i mean literally, they are taking the piss out of this guy, who CUT OFF HIS OWN HAND AND THEN MICROWAVED IT.

Read the last line... :/ and then note that there's an ad for Sweeney Todd on the same page...:/:/:/

From here.

A MAN in Idaho who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off his hand then cooked it in a microwave oven.

The man in his mid-20s called police as he cooked his severed limb.

He was calm when they arrived at his home in the town of Hayden on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

"It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," police Captain Ben Wolfinger said.

"He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death. That kind of mental illness is just sad."

It was not clear whether the man had a history of mental illness but he was now in protective custody in a mental health unit.

A hospital spokeswoman would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand.

The Book of Revelation in the New Testament contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury."

The Book of Matthew also contains the passage: "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

Capt Wolfinger said he did not know which hand was amputated.

That new Kanye West/Chris Martin Song

It's feckin growing on me. Seriously.

There's no proper video here, but it's all over youtube.

Kanye West's site is very random. Especially his blog, you think being a musician and all it would be more ehhh....coherent. It's more like mine. He has all this stuff about research facilities (!), a coyote lined hammock, and a deadly jacket. Just saying is all.

So Catchy

Istanbul not Constantinople

Visit the Chancer

Quick! It's that Lebanon video. In full. Ch-ch-check it out.

Em...Time is literally running out?

Oh dear...

Scientists have come up with the radical suggestion that the universe's end may come not with a bang but a standstill - that time could be literally running out and could, one day, stop altogether.

I just don't know really
.

Stuff that looks like Ducks

This is bizarre... it's just stuff that looks like a Duck, or ducks in fact.

I frickin love this movie

Strictly Ballroom. I believe it is my actual favourite film EVER. I mean in the entire history of time. Ever. Anyway I was just thinking about it, because I'm slightly stressed and figured this is as good an outlet as anything...

Ah Scott

Listen to the rheethem.

Ike 'Beats' Tina to Death

I am not messing with you here, The New York Post actually used this as a headline when Ike Turner died before Christmas.

IKE 'BEATS' TINA TO DEATH
December 13, 2007 -- LOS ANGELES - Rock 'n' roll pioneer Ike Turner, who rose to fame in the 1950s and became a star performing with his ex-wife, Tina Turner, has died at age 76, said an official with the performer's management company.

"Ike Turner passed away this morning. He was at his home," in San Marcos, Calif., in the suburbs of San Diego, said Scott Hanover, of Thrill Entertainment.

Hanover could not provide any information about the cause of death.

Turner helped pioneer rock 'n' roll in 1951, when his band, The Kings of Rhythm, recorded the song "Rocket 88," a tune widely regarded as the first record in the genre's earliest days.

As a guitarist and pianist, Turner played with the likes of B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon in the 1950s.

He married Annie Mae Bullock in 1958. She subsequently changed her name to Tina, and they enjoyed such hits as "River Deep, Mountain High," "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits."

The pair won a Grammy in 1972 for "Proud Mary," and earlier this year Ike Turner was awarded again with the record industry's top honor for his traditional blues album, "Risin' with the Blues."

After his and Tina Turner's 1976 divorce, Ike Turner was crippled by a cocaine addiction and was widely vilified in the mid-'80s as Tina Turner mounted a huge comeback and said she had suffered abuse and humiliation at his hand.

Also
From the Gawker:

Ike Turner is dead at 76, which means he has not outlived his onetime wife Tina Turner and thereby beaten her to the ultimate finish line: Death. See what they did there? Ike had a long and influential career during which he collaborated with many famous musicians and maybe sort of helped invent rock and roll, but he will be remembered mostly as Laurence Fishburne in the 1993 movie 'What's Love Got To Do With It,' being like "Eat the cake, Anna Mae," to Angela Bassett.

In other news, was at a table quiz last night. AND WE WON, although all the credit has to go to my team-mates, for having a bizarre and superfluous knowledge of...stuff, and to sport damo for the laughs... :P I believe i managed two questions including one about David Gray's Babylon...the shame.

It was all for a very good cause, that is Oxfam, and was very fun.

We won (well i sort of got it, being the only one driving last night) a massive hamper full of the most gorgeous looking fairtrade biccies, and honey and tea!

I'm going to come back here in a while to come up with some of the questions...

Oh yeah and it's a regular quiz, so clear the first Tuesday of the month, and head to Pravda! Oh and next month, i hear rumours of a celebrity, quiz master...

In other, other news I'm not sure where i saw this, it was yesterday sometime...but this crazy woman's wedding cake...was a frickin lifesize likeness of herself.

Come on now.

Not too bad

Basia Bulat

I'm going to a quiz tonight, I LOVE QUIZZES SO MUCH!

hope the rain stops soon...

Be Kind Rewind

Looks very exciting, and now Jack Black is yakking (love those ak sounds) about a new flick...

[It] is a biblical comedy, it is about the old testament. I'm just a dude wondering through biblical times. I'm not a famous character that you would have heard of before. Me and Michael Cera are just sort of wondering through and you get to see all these old stories from the Torah told through agnostic eyes.

More here.

I'm not the only one...

First it was Rick... then the Chicago Tribune, Great minds eh...

Everyone's talking bout Huck and Chuck, the lads are hanging out, double teaming one might say...

Tiny picture = I suck at the internet

This scares the crap outta me

Two Aer Lingus planes hit by lightning

Two transatlantic jets were grounded today after they were struck by lightning yesterday.

The Aer Lingus aircrafts were bound for Shannon Airport when the incident occurred during final approach, the airline said.

One flight from Boston landed at 5.50am while the second flight from New York landed at 8am.

While no passengers were injured in either incident damage was sustained to the nose of both aircrafts.

"It would be unusual for two aircraft to be struck on the same morning," an Aer Lingus spokeswoman said.

While both planes landed safely they were unable to continue the second stage of their journey to Dublin.

Passengers bound for the capital were transported via a different plane, the airline said.

Return flights to the US were delayed for a time as engineers checked the aircrafts.

Both planes are now back in service.

Just because

It's just gone New Years

Sigur Ros - Hop hop hop hop hop (i'm not good with my spelling today.)

Happy New Year

It's back to work, Christmas is over, it was a flipping delight for the most part anyway. In new news: this is my new favourite band (note to self don't use the word new so much).

I have a new nephew...finally! His name is Stephen, i've only seen pictures yet, and he's such a cutie.

I had a very very weird first meal of new years...it was chicken, but also fish, and there was lemon with it. It was renamed Fickin....very very weird.

New years resolutions: More gigs,
No more coca-cola (that's a tough one)
try to have proper breakfasts.
No more drinking for at least a week.
go to Rock karaoke more.
Go to the Pod more, they played return of the mac there.
See Springbreak again
See The Time Traveller's Wife, A mighty Wind, new Indiana Jones
Be more glamorous and mysterious.
Learn stuff

some of these resolutions are likely to clash with others...:/

It's Prison Love:

Giant Knickers save house.

This website is crazy.
