John Cage
Of 4'33 fame.
John Cage, Water Walk.
using a water pitcher, bathtub, and 5 radios all hooked up. This is crazy. He's got some really interesting ideas.
4'33 is amazing actually
kudos to EP for putting this into my head.

Some stuff
The People's Elbow, I just found out what this was...
The Urban Dictionary rocks.
Jeepers: a FIRE TORNADO.
That is both freaky and impressive..and possibly altered I'm not sure about video editing and the like.
In other news: I'm getting some new tunes including that new Sigur Ros audio from the DVD thingy. Pithcfork has a fine interview bit with Sigur Ros.
As well as that i'm getting some Gram Parsons Reprise Anthology thing and some BBC Live Lounge stuff and that established 1967 CD.
Oh and i was on the radio this morning... that was fun.
the people's elbow was one of the signature moves of the rock. first he would look at the croud. then pull off his elbow pad in slow motion and throw it into the crowd. then he would run left, bounce off the ropes then over the guy on the ground, bounce off the ropes again. then he would kick his right leg up and drop his elbow ont the man's heart.

Don't go messing with Chabal
He's right you know.
See i'm not the only one...but this is particularly lame, not content though obviously.
I've no idea what he's saying...but then he starts singing..it's all worth it.
This is probably going too far. :/

Cat Face
It's episode 5....where is episode 6???
I think i posted this before...but cat face is too funny.

Very funny, that's it. More here.
Edit: I just found this, it's like a weird homemade video with the ODDEST music ever. There's a few youtubes, but none as good as the comic strip stylee thing.
James Bond
I'm on a serious buzz today...You Only Live Twice i think might just be my favourite.
"you only live twice, and twice is the only way to live"
has a great song too!
those trailers are hilarious!
This is just cos Nobody Does it Better is my favourite theme song, and cos this has plenty of Daniel Craig, which is a good thing i think
and cos...why not?
arctic monkeys do shirley bassey. Although not as well, still entertaining. because i couldn't get Ms Bassey doing it.

To be fair
This is the lamest quiz i've ever seen.
Not like the one in The Ticket, which has questions like this.
FIENDISH!
Not like the one in The Ticket, which has questions like this.
Denzel Washington smuggles drugs. Jason Biggs does something terrible with a dessert. Kevin Spacey has a midlife crisis. Richard Gere sells sexual favours. What's the connection?
FIENDISH!
Banana Wave

Thousands of bananas have been washed up on two Dutch islands in the North Sea after several containers fell off a cargo ship in a storm, officials say.
I wish they had just appeared, that would have been cool. From the BBC.

Just chillin on the street
I would love to see this on the streets of Dublin...or anywhere really.
It's Beirut aka Zach singing Knife,I'm reliably informed it's a grizzly bear cover...I'm ashamed and not that familiar with them. But this is excellent, I love the piss-taking element to it, unless of course i'm totally missing something.
damn nice harmonies there
Hallelujah cover in Dublin (in a venue)
it's not mega quality unfort.
Love the moustache: Postcards from Italy.
Everybody loves him.

Woah

You don't think this stuff really happens. But it really does.
October 28, 2007—A pirate skiff burns in the Indian Ocean off Somalia's coast after it was hit by several rounds fired from guided missile destroyer U.S.S. Porter.
The U.S. Navy responded to a distress call made by the Japanese chemical tanker Golden Nori, after the pirates hijacked the ship.
On October 29 U.S. navy destroyer U.S.S. James E. Williams engaged another group of Somali pirates who had seized a North Korean vessel.
"This is a very serious security problem on the African coast. These are not pirates who will remind you of Johnny Depp. These are quite different kinds of pirates," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, told the Associated Press.
From the excellent National Geographic.
So there i was
It was Friday, always a good day. I love Fridays because i get that seriously delightful joyous Friday feeling. I popped home and was looking forward to a lovely quiet night in, as my friend S says, staying is the new going out.
I realise this may sound a bit...well...sad but i need to take it easy for a while. Am trying that sober november thing that seems to have gripped the country.
So i was going home safe in teh knowledge that i would be screeching with delight at Bloc Party in the Big Top on Saturday. Friday nights in are ok when you know there's a Saturday night out ahead of you.
So i stayed in, and watched the most stunningly ridiculous film on tv3. I'm not sure why i watched it, it was sort of like looking at something gross, you just can't tear yourself away. It was ALMOST as bad as Raising Helen.
Anyway Saturday arrived, and with it all the excitment of the gig, until i was struck down, by the most warped head-pain that i have only experienced once before. And this may sound daft but i think it was caused by this. This happened once before but with Aussie shampoo. Which i think is rotten and scary.
I nearly collapsed in Dunnes in Rathmines, and not because i saw several young lads stuffing sliced pans up their jumpers.
I hobbled home, and lay down in a nice soothing dark room, and had to text my friend to cancel, at literally the last minute. So disappointed cos i heard they were so so deadly.
In other news, i'm trying to beat my apparent developing OCD by turning the volume in my car to 36.
Edit: Oh yeah i forgot. So when i recovered on Sunday i went out shopping. And bought a dress, for no apparent reason. And i had told my friend i'd take her to some tile place, but because the one way streets in Dublin are ridiculously excessive, we didn't make it. Dropped her home, and then shoved a bag in my eye.
I don't even know how it happened, one minute the bag was in my hand, the next it was piercing my eyeball, worst part was it was my good eye!
so basically i think the moral is, don't stop drinking, it will ruin your health and life :/

That new song
You know, it's Alison Krauss, and Robert Plant, Gone Baby Gone,
it's on teh right side of Bluegrass i think. I like it.
Via Something called SaladDays, check it out.
Oh it's actually called Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)

It's Halloween
WOOOOOOO,
Here are some facts that i robbed from the BBC:
Fact One:
About 99% of pumpkins marketed domestically are used as Jack O'Lanterns at Halloween.
Fact Two:
In the United States, 86% of Americans decorate their homes for Halloween.
Fact Three:
Legendary magician Harry Houdini died in Detroit of gangrene and peritonitis resulting from a ruptured appendix on Halloween in 1926.
Fact Four:
Spalding claims to be the pumpkin capital of Britain, because it's the home of the country's biggest producer. David Bowman grows two million a year!
Fact Five:
Did you know - there are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with orange? Hard to believe for such an important colour?
Fact Six:
It is believed that the Irish began the tradition of Trick or Treating. In preparation for All Hallow's Eve, Irish townsfolk would visit neighbours and ask for contributions of food for a feast in the town.
Fact Seven:
The record for the fastest pumpkin carver in the world is Jerry Ayers of Baltimore, Ohio. He carved a pumpkin in just 37 seconds!
Fact Eight:
Vampires think Halloween is tacky and don't bother going out that night.
Fact Nine:
The original Halloween film directed by John Carpenter in 1978 cost just $320,000 to make. It ended up making over $50m worldwide.
Fact Ten:
People have believed for centuries that light keeps away ghosts and ghouls. Making a pumpkin lantern with a candle inside may keep you safe from all the spooky spirits flying around on Halloween.
And a picture of Chabal, because he's a bit scary too.

actually gruff is a word i'd use.

Stax Records
I got this double CD for my birthday a few months ago. It's deadly. Literally (not literally). But it is really good, Stax had this amazing converted studio with a slanty floor and all sorts, and was home to Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. It's proper soul and sounds amazing.
Anywho on the course of cruising around the interweb found this cool site about the Stax Museum. I wanna go!

I had a dream
Well actually it was before i went to sleep so it wasn't in fact a dream. I hopped off to the my leaba last night, the heating was on, and this may explain what i am about to type here.
I wrote an amazing song last night.
It was amazing, literally it would have been a fantastic one hit wonder and i would inspire people.
I have never written a song in life before, and that's ok. I'm not that way inclined. I don't have that gift for it like him, and her and them.
But last night that changed. I was just nodding off, when a tune came into my head. And the lyrics were there too, it just sort of travelled into my head, and it was kind of fully formed. Not unlike Harry Potter i suppose.
I was lying there thinkin i should write this down, but i thought, i'm already going to sleep much past my bed time i think i'll do it in the morning. And in the morning it was gone.
ggrrr!

Stupid Drinking

Shane Hegarty mentioned some girls who were talking about mixing Calpol with Jack Daniels at Arcade Fire.
I don't think this would be for me. But it got me thinking of stupid drinking habits/experiments/pain wishes.
A particular genius idea, was Mojitos, made with lemsip powder because we couldn't find any lime. This was not a good idea. It was New Years last year, and literally the only thing i can remember is hearing the Bells on my friends balcony, and telling a Frenchman my life story in Temple Bar. Yock, i still cringe at this thought.
There was another experience, but i'm still too fragile to discuss it.
This is so cool!

The Automated Beacon. I found it on the Tate site. They were doing some Olympic 40 days thing. there's actually some cool stuff on it, I really like that Anthony Gormley chap.
But the automated beacon is best. It tracks or something (i don't know abotu these things) what people are searching for online! People search for very weird things.
Voyeur-istic-tastic!

Fionn Regan
He is everywhere, literally. There you are down the beach, and he pops up, and there you are in a churche and he pops up. I love this video:
I love all the soundy change-ness, that's a technical term donthca know.

Sébastien Chabal

I think i'm becoming obsessed with him.
Jeepers that pic came out massive...that was unintentional. :/
Super Furry Animals
I was at the Super Furry Animals in Vicar Street the other night. I love Vicar Street. Love it. I think it's one of the best venues going, well of the ones i have visited, which i suppose is not the most wide reaching.
But anyway i was going with my cousin J who went to Australia yesterday for 8 weeks. I will miss her, i do make her go to gigs with my a lot, we saw teh flaming lips in Vicar Street a few months ago: WOW.
Anywho i saw SFA a few months ago as well at Lovebox. I thought they were deadly! maybe it was the cocktails, or the one day, with only a few droplets of the wet stuff.
Anyway, i was less impressed this time round. I've got that new album dealy and have been enjoying it, but i thought SFA were fairly below par to start off with. Maybe it was just me, but i just didn't get it. Went out to the bar at one stage and decided to just chill out there for a while. Bear (Bare?) in mind that i'd been looking forward to the gig since Lovebox.
After the little break they started to rev up a bit, and it got brilliant. It was like a poor band taking off their masks (or putting on a helmet) and playing some deadly tunes, really well.
I especially liked (is that the word..?) that song about Phil Spector's Wife, weird but very interesting!
They did the usual excellent faves like Rings around the World, and the Man Don't Give a Fuck. Juxtaposed with U, Receptacle for the Respectable If You Don’t Want Me to Destroy You and my favourite (obviously) Hello Sunshine. It got very entertaining with the guys in the balcony who were doing what can only be described as a bushwhacker dance!! All in all, without the first maybe 20 mins, i would have been a very happy bunny.
:/ i think i'm being too judgemental.

6 Music
The BBC loike, have announced the best Come Togethers, that's duets voted for by the listeners. I do like a good duet me:
Some of the rest of the list are fairly crap though, even that list has hair on it. Maybe i don't really know any decent duets :/ maybe i'm going crazy.
Another kind of duet:
1 Foggy Dew – Sinéad O’Connor & The Chieftains
2 Fairytale Of New York – Kirsty MacColl & The Pogues
3 Under Pressure – Queen & David Bowie
4 Where The Wild Roses Grow – Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue
5 Walk This Way – Run DMC & Aerosmith
6 Islands In The Stream – Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
7 You're All I Need To Get By - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
8 What Have I Done To Deserve This? – Dusty Springfield & Pet Shop Boys
9 Don’t Give Up – Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush
10 Some Velvet Morning – Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra
11 Little Drummer Boy – Bing Crosby & David Bowie
